The ancient Greek physician Hippocrates (460-377 BC), considered the father of modern medicine taught over 2000 years ago: "Through the like disease is produced and through the application of the like it is cured." Paracelsus, a 16th century Swiss physician, wrote: "Sames must be cured by sames." These are the foundations of Homeopathy.

It was Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) though, a well respected physician, scholar and teacher, born in Saxony, Germany, who developed Homeopathy into an applicable system of medicine. Having withstood the test of 200 years of practice, there now are homoeopathic hospitals, clinics and homoeopathic medical schools in many countries all over the world.

"The physician's highest calling, his only calling, is to make sick people healthy - to heal, as it is termed" - Samuel Hahnemann.

The main principle of homeopathy, 'Like cures Likes', demands from the Homoeopath to use a substance which helps to support, rather than suppress the symptoms of the organism.

Only the most minute, even infinitesimal dose of a homoeopathic substance is used.  During the process of preparation of homoeopathic remedies [mostly substances from the three natural kingdoms] extremely high dilutions are achieved.

This ensures that there is no concern as to any 'toxic side-effects' from the remedies. Homeopathy is suitable for everybody - infants, the elderly, during pregnancy, as well as for pets and other animals.

All symptoms in a person are taken into account. We exist as physical, emotional, mental, and of course, spiritual beings. Symptoms are inter-connected on all levels.  It is inconceivable to think that one could treat a sore throat, some stomach trouble or a sprained ankle as a single and separate part without effecting the rest of the organism. After all, your foot is indeed connected to your head, so to speak.

"You cannot divorce Medicine and Theology. Man exists all the way down, from his innermost Spiritual to his outermost Natural." - James Tyler Kent (1849 - 1916).

Physical symptoms, personality, life history, inheritance, all can yield important information to the Homoeopath in his attempt to select the appropriate remedy for the individual person.

The aim of homeopathic treatment is to get the client to a level of health, balance and freedom from limitations so tha he/she will need very little, if any, reliance on any medications or therapies including homeopathy.

Homeopathy aims to support and strengthen the organism in it's own struggle towards health and healing. Rather than suppressing or changing naturally occurring healing processes, nature is observed and regarded as the guide on the path toward well being.

True constitutional homeopathic therapy treats the whole person as an individual not specific diseases or conditions. The conditions will be taken care of when the individual regains a higher level of balance and freedom from limitations.

An individual will usually present with one or more conditions as his/her chief complaint, such as: abscesses, furuncle or boil • aches and pains such as: appendicitis • abdominal pain • arthritic pain • back pain • painful breasts • chest pains • colic • elbow pain • painful feet • pain in finger joints • gall bladder pain • painful fums • heart pain • heartburn • pain in heels • intestinal colic and cramps • pain in knees • leg cramps • liver pain • menstrual cramps • muscle pain • neck pain • nerve pain • ovary pain • pain in pharynx • portal vein congestion • stomach pain • rectal pain • sciatic pain • shoulder pain • sprains • strains • tail bone pain • teething in babies • painful tendons • tennis elbow • toothache • trigeminal nerve pain (face) • scalds and burns

Other Conditions include: acne • allergies such as hayfever and food allergies • asthma • baby care [colics, rashes, teething, etc] • bladder infections • bronchitis • candida • canker sores • caries (tooth ache) • chapped lips • childbirth • colds and flus • constipation • coughs • corks • cramps • croup • diarrhea • dizziness • earache • ears ringing • exzema • eyes (vision, tearing, infection, stys) • fears • fevers • gas • gout • gum troubles • headaches (migraines) • hemorrhoids • herpes • hiccups • hoarsness • hot flashes • hypoglycemia • indigestion • infection • inflammation • insect bites • insomnia • itching • kidney pain • blood pressure • measles • menopause • morning sickness • motion sickness • mourning • mumps • nausea and vertigo • more to come...

Chronic and degenerative diseases are ever increasing. Emotional and mental health are declining into lack of motivation, into fatigue, loss of ethical values, depression, and criminality.

It seems our multi-million dollar technology and our chemical approach to disease may not always provide the most effective or the only answers to this situation.

Today more and more people are assuming responsibility for their own well being.  We improve our nutritional habits, we exercise, learn relaxation techniques, and turn to gentle and non toxic medicines.  Choosing safe and gentle approaches to health care is only one more of the many areas in which we see a return to the traditional values of a holistic understanding of our bodies, as well as of our environment.

Homeopathy fulfills the demands and principles of these traditional values.

With all this being said, it is still to be understood, that there is no such thing as a 'panacea', a 'cure-all'. Homeopathy, just like any other form of treatment or medicine, can not and does not claim to be the best and only road to health in all cases all the time. It does not replace conventional medical care in times of serious emergencies and life threatening situations, or in cases which do no respond otherwise. Still, whether the condition is acute or chronic, whether it is so-called 'arthritis', 'asthma', 'colitis' or 'indigestion', 'ear infection' or 'behaviour problem', or any other of the many 'labels', Homeopathy does not treat disease names, but attempts to understand and treat the whole person!

Homeopathy can be used by it's own, or in complement with other therapies, natural and/or conventional.

In acute conditions the remedies act quite quickly but in chronic cases the remedy much slower over several days or weeks or even months. In general, the time during which the remedies are active depends on both the kind of remedy and the condition of the patient. There are remedies that work a short time, such as Aconite and remedies work a long time such as Calcarea flourica.

Chronic cases may require several follow-ups over a period of six months up to five years and beyond.
